With its city, county, state, federal and private sector partners, the South Texas Geriatric Education Center assists with or wholly orchestrates several annual and ad hoc educational events.

2014 South Texas Alzheimer's Symposium <> Uvalde, TX    {Successfully Completed}
(NAPA South Texas Tour)2014 AD Symposium - Uvalde
In cahoots with the local chapter of the Alzheimer's Association, April 11th is the first leg of our "South Texas Tour" (which began two years and five "shows" ago in Victoria).  Possible because of a federal grant from the Obama Administration, the combined efforts of the the STGEC and AA brings current AD information and resources to the rural parts of Texas--like small but historic Uvalde.  The "memorable" agenda (attainable soon below) will cover diverse topics from Diagnosing Dementia and Caregiver StressBusting to Clinical Trials, AD CoMorbidities and Ethical Considerations @ End-of-Life.  Good for Ethics and open to caregivers and the public.  Breakfast, lunch and break food provided.  Free of charge but there will be a small fee for just those needing Continuing Education credits (6.5 credits).  For CE info, please contact Mr. Jose Zapata (210) 562-6562; otherwise, please feel free to contact AA's Ms. Maxine P. May 3rd will be the third time members of the STGEC will be helping the U.S. Veteran's Administration (South Texas Veterans HealthCare System--Audie L. 2014 APS & UT | Alzheimer's Conference <> El Paso, TX   {Successfully Completed}

2014 South Texas Disparities Summit <> McAllen, TX    {Successfully Completed}

2013 Hill Country Wound Care Management Seminar <> Kerrville (Successfully Completed)

June 6th & 7th will be the third time STGEC staff will have helped the South Texas Veterans HealthCare System--Audie L.     The annual Texas Conference on Aging 2012 takes place in beautiful South Padre Island at the Hilton Garden Inn.  The focus for the 2012 TCoA builds on the momentum created at the 2011 "Mission: Active Aging" conference.  As professionals in the aging service industry, we know the importance of staying active, healthy and socially and spiritually engaged as we age.   TCoA supports professionals in the field of aging with the most current research, unparalleled training, and the tools and resources to create excellence in service delivery. It is through an educated workforce that we can support older Texans and boomers as they live and age well.  The STGEC is a full affiliated partner in planning and executing TCoAs.

2009 Conference on Aging

COA09   UTHSCSA's famous South Texas Geriatric Education Center and the STVHCS-ALMD’s infamous Geriatric Research Education and Clinical Center would like to invite you to the 30th Annual Conference on Aging at the beautiful Hyatt Regency RiverWalk.  This year's timely theme is Geriatric Primary Care: Current Perspectives and New Horizons in Dementia Care.     COA2004  A quarter century of geriatic caregiver education will culminate on August 27th, 2004 at SA's Omni Hotel--conveniently located on IH-10 at the Colonnade. (The Omni is approximately 25 minutes from the SAT Airport and 10 minutes from the STVHCS-ALMD/UTHSCSA campus)  §  The General Primary Care focus (Consistent with the annual theme of "Current Perspectives & New Horizons") will see renouned speakers from near (San Antonio and Houston) and far (Michigan, Arizona, Arkansas and Illinois) wax geriatric re: Diabetes, Hypotension, Medical Management of Elder Abuse, Women's Health Initiative Trials, Stem Cells in Age-Related Disease and Herbal Care Supplements  §  CME & CEUs awarded   §  Notes re: Registration Fee -- The reg fee includes continental breakfast, breaks, lunch, program materials and CEUs, and must be paid in advance-- including employer-paid tuition. The Reg Due Date is August 26, 2004.
